01-Aug-2000 -- I visited this point long before I ever heard of the confluence project and I can only say for sure that I passed within 250 metres of the point, but very likely passed it within 100 metres. I was aware of being exactly at 79N but I didn't think much of the longitude as they're almost within sight of each other at this latitude, but the map puts 12E right in my path. I took two photographs from the area, but those are both taken 3km east of the point. So this only counts as an incomplete visit.
I visited the point while on a sailing trip from Norway to Svalbard, the full story is here!
The point is in the ocean but in a narrow strait with only a few hundred metres to either side. The point was probably on a glacier less than a hundred years ago. In fact, the strait appeared in the mid 90'ies when a glacier withdrew which used to connect Spitsbergen with the Blomstrandhalvøya peninsula (which still bears the name although it is no longer a peninsula!)
