12-May-2007 -- My mom decided to come with me on this one. We parked at Lake Poway and walked the trail along the perimeter of the lake and then up to the top of the ridge. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day, and everything was green.
When we got to the top of the ridge, we turned onto a dirt trail that appeared to be in the direction we wanted. We came to a rocky clearing and thought about going a particular way. I tapped the pile of rock beneath me, and I was dissuaded by the loud hiss of a rattle.
We got to the top of a hill and could see down into a canyon that was occupied by a few palatial homes. I knew we were right above the confluence. I hiked down the hill as far as I could before I came up against impenetrable brush. I think my GPS said I was within 100 meters of it, but I'm not sure. I didn't take a picture of the reading.
Since I knew it was on a person's property and I hadn't gotten permission to go onto it, I decided not to try to go any further.
Enjoy these pictures; all that brush isn't there anymore. Not too long after our visit, wildfires swept through the San Diego area and burned this all out. Very sad.
