19-Jan-2014 -- This is my first report on this page. Hopefully, in the future, I will get a chance to post more of these short reports and visit many interesting places, as I could do today.
My first confluence point (coordinates 47N 8E) is located about a distance of 53 km and one hour drive from my home in Wädenswil. This point was already described very well on the Confluence.org homepage. Via previous reports and google map inputs I could come by car to the place not too far away from my target and a place where I could easily park my car and start approaching.
The weather was foggy when I left home but when I arrived at the area it was already sunny. Normally this time of year we have snow but this year we can find it only in higher altitudes. I was lucky to be above the fog (830 m above sea level) and enjoying sunshine. I was also happy to find a place where I would have only 1 km walk to the target. Or at least I was thinking I have only a short walk ahead.
the first 200 meters was easy but then the landscape changed and it started to go very sharply upwards. I walked and walked but the distance was not really shortening much. No wonder, as I was only going upwards but not really getting closer to the target. I went over fallen trees and muddy ground. It took only a short time and my shoes were completely wet and dirty from mud, and not only shoes but also my jeans.
I had too warm clothes on and I started to sweat. When I was crossing barbwire fences my jeans stuck into it and also got ripped. When I was only 300 meters away from the target I saw above me a car passing by. I was upset. I started to study maps better and I recognized that via another road I could come closer to target already by car. I turned back and returned to my car. The way back was mostly the same but at least not so difficult as when climbing up. This exercise took more than one hour but in the end I was happy to get back to my car and get rid of my wet clothes.
Fifteen minutes later I was already at the point where I saw cars passing by before. From this point I could come even closer to my target and finally I had only 170 meters to walk ahead. This time the ground was also difficult, plenty of wet leaves. This time it went downwards. I could slowly drop down without problems and finally around 12:15 I reached my first confluence point 47N 8E.
Coordinator's Note: This visit is incomplete as it doesn't meet our photo requirements.
