#1: Point of return

(visited by Rainer Mautz and David Salido Monzú)

22-Feb-2014 -- This is the first out of 3 reports reaching or attempting confluence points around Valencia. On Friday after work, I hopped in a plane from Zurich to Valencia with my bicycle. After unboxing the bicycle at the airport, I rode 40 km eastwards and rolled out my sleeping back in an olive grove between the villages Turis and Alborache. It was a chilly night under the stars.

The next morning I continued riding eastwards to La Portera and then southwards to Ayora, a little town 8 km from the confluence point. Right at the moment when I entered Ayora, David overtook me with his car. He had come all the way from Madrid to visit his first confluence point together with me. First, we had an excellent lunch in Ayora. Now we were well prepared: filled stomachs, two bicycles, and one car. We would have an easy visit.

However, after cycling 7 km, we arrived at a gate at a private property where the landowner clearly stated that visitors are not welcomed. The area is a hunting ground and signs warn for hunting dogs. Well, we were going to hunt, but unfortunately not for the proper animals.

I normally read the reports of previous confluence visitors only afterwards in order to have an independent hunt. The drawback however is lack of essential information that may cause the visit to remain incomplete. This was exactly the case here. We actually did read the report of Javier Valles at the gate finding out that we should have approached the CP from the South. We did try by cycling back to Ayora and driving all around, but our progress on the gravel tracks was too slow and nightfall caught us 5 km from the confluence point at a wind farm.

As a consequence, David remains pointless.
