#1: The confluence point lies near the top of a grassy hill

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

03-Jun-2014 -- When I first began investigating this confluence point, I was surprised to learn that it had been visited only once before - by Matt and Jonathan Goff, more than 13 years ago. Their visit was during the winter, with snow present, so I was looking forward to visiting it during the summer. It's actually quite an easy point to visit, requiring only an easy 2-mile round-trip hike. It's also quite scenic, as it lies near the top of a grassy hill, looking north-east across a pretty, sagebrush-covered valley.

Satellite imagery showed a country road passing just 0.5 miles west of the point, so I first tried to access the point via this road. However, I found the road blocked with "posted" and "no trespassing" signs. So instead, I detoured counter-clockwise around the farmland that's just to the south of the confluence point, ending up on a road that passes to the north. At [43.01497,-114.98218], I found a narrow dirt road leading towards the confluence point. This road ends at a point just under 1 mile northeast of the point. Parking here, I had an easy 1-mile hike (each way), with 350 feet of elevation gain. Late in a summer afternoon, the scene was peaceful and rustic, as the setting sun illuminated the sagebrush covered hill to the east. Cicadas were chirping, and many dragonflies were buzzing around.
