18-Aug-2017 -- This would be the first of several confluences on an adventure to see the Total Solar Eclipse along the path of totality at 44N 114W. I picked up my friend Jerry who was in Salt Lake City finishing a business trip.

We were heading north early in the morning and exited Interstate 84 and continued westbound on Highway 30. We stopped here and parked on the north side of the road opposite this substation.

After unloading my Polaris RZR, we followed Black Pine Rd (also depicted as 36000W) northbound and turned west onto 27440 North Rd here. This double track was grassy and, as we drove west, managed to harvest quite a lot of seeds! Any high clearance vehicle should be able to easily make this same trip.

I took a bunch of pictures and sent a SPOT message declaring our confluence success.

Picture 1 looks north towards the Black Pine Cone Mountain. The rest of the pictures show the openness of this area. Picture 7 shows an old wheel that appears to have been placed here after the previous visitor, Marlin Jorgensen, visit in 2004.

Post processing of the GPS data (650 positions) reveals that my Trimble GPS receiver was 2.721 meters bearing 355 degrees from the actual confluence with a Horizontal Precision of 2.0 meters. The wheel was also differentially located to be 3.541 meters due north of the confluence.

From where we parked, our round trip took 47 minutes and we travelled 10.3 miles. We were stopped for 24 minutes.

Our adventure continues at 43N 113W.
