27-Jul-2018 -- Having stayed the previous night in Biarritz, I spent most of the day visiting this remarkable Degree Confluence Point in the Pyrenees Mountains, just 1.2 km northeast of France's border with Spain.

Like the previous visitors, I parked at the hairpin turn at 43.00017°N 0.98851°W, at an elevation of 1230 meters, and 930 meters ('as the crow flies’) from the point. I then made the same mistake that Rainer Mautz did - by hiking along the tempting-looking farm path that starts here. This path ends up passing just 300 meters north of the point - but at as significantly lower elevation, requiring a difficult zig-zagging climb up a steep hill to reach the point. In hindsight, it would have been better to avoid this farm path, and instead immediately start climbing up the first ridge, thereby ending up approaching the point from the south.

The point lies on a steep north-facing slope at an elevation of 1350 meters, within a grove of oak trees. Looking south from near the point, you can see 2017 meter high Pic d’Orhy, which forms part of France’s border with Spain.
