06-Aug-2020 -- This is the fourth out of 7 reports on a one-week bicycle trip (1100 km) from Riga to Warsaw. The story starts from 56°N 25°E and continues from 54°N 24°E.
I had spent the night camping at the river Neman near the village Merkine located 40 km northeast of this confluence point. After visiting the confluence to the east in the morning, I crossed the border into Poland. In the afternoon that day I reached the touristic (recreational) town Gawrych-Ruda with several lakes. Then I rode into a huge forest where the confluence is located.
The exact location is in a tree nursery – at least I thought so. I parked my bicycle, at a distance of 120 m at a fence enclosing the tree nursery. I guess the fence prevents deer to feed on young tree sprouts. I entered the compound through a gate. Inside very dense vegetation caused slow progress and many scratches on my legs, arms and head. After a seemingly endless bush-fight, I encountered another fence: the confluence was actually outside the compound! The bush fighting had been not only useless, but disclosed that even an experienced confluencer can still do stupid approaches. The remaining 30 m were quickly covered, finding the confluence directly on a track. Returning to my bicycle was quick: I had 2 minutes to walk around the compound.
After visiting the confluence I continued southwards and spent the night camping out at a little lake called Tajno in the village Tajenko, about 50 km south of the confluence point.
