14-Jun-2023 -- Today began with a 4:45am wakeup in Fort Collins CO, a shuttle to the Denver airport, a Frontier flight to Omaha (back row, bathrooms leaking sewage) and a 40-minute drive south in a rented pickup to this lovely confluence on the property of Dan Wehrbein, who was in his driveway when I pulled in at 1:00pm. I told him my mission and he smiled and said I wasn’t the first. He walked me back to the site, which lies in a field of three-week-old soybeans sprouting through last year’s cornstalk stubble (no-till agriculture). Not much has changed since the last visit in 2018, nor indeed has Mr. Wehrbein (82) much changed since the first visit photo of him in 2000. Temperature in the 80s with hardly a cloud in the sky – a perfect day in the heartland. Now southward to 40°N 96°W.
