19-Oct-2024 -- In such a sparsely-populated part of Australia, it’s surprising that any Degree Confluence Point is easy to reach. But remarkably, this point lies just 290m North of the Great Northern Highway - the only paved road in the area. Visiting this Degree Confluence Point was an enjoyable way to break up the brutal 6+-hour drive from Broome to Port Hedland. (But although this point is easy to reach, this was the first recorded visit in almost 18 years.)
The only difficulty in reaching this point - apart from dealing with the 35C heat, and the many annoying flies - was having to crawl under a barbed-wire fence that runs parallel to the highway.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point, and of the centre-pivot irrigation (part of Pardoo Station) just to the Northeast.
