During a city break in Dublin, I took the opportunity to visit the confluence point 53°N 7°, located south-west towards Kilkenny.
I drove from Dublin in a rental car, taking the M7, M9, and N78 to the town of Athy. There I was particularly impressed by the White Castle, the mural of the goddess “Berba” of the River Barrow, and the statue of Sir Ernest Shackleton. After parking in the town and a stroll along Duke- and Woodstock Street, we reached the vicinity of the confluence point 53°N 7°. After taking photos oriented to the cardinal directions and observing the location around 13 m in front of the house, I went to the front door and knocked. Just before, right in front of the door, I quickly took a screenshot of the coordinates and was lucky to see that all the zeros were displayed on my mobile! John opened the door, and his father, the owner of the house, was also there. After a brief, pleasant chat in which I tried to explain the DCP, we left the property and explored the canal. The “Grand Canal - Barrow Line” has many locks. As far as I can tell, these gates can only be operated manually, by using beams that project far outwards on both sides. After a visit to the pub "The Auld Shebeen", we went to the car park and back to Dublin.
