#1: General view of the CP

23-Feb-2025 -- This CP visit was an add-on to the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve. We visited first the gorge created by the erosion of the Cassibile river in the Middle Miocene marls (Tellaro Formation). Then from the Scala Cruci entrance we drove 13 km to the CP what is close [~50m] to the road.

The CP is located on the Hyblean Plateau. The exposed sedimentary rocks are characterised in this area by Middle-Upper Miocene biocalcarenites (Palazzolo Formation) – the formation name is from the nearest town of Palazzolo Acreide.
