31-Jul-2026 -- Instead of driving I-71 diagonally from Columbus to Cleveland, I opted to cut due north out of Columbus on increasingly smaller roads to reach this agro-sylvan confluence. I parked at 7:55 am on the road to the east alongside a tiny bridge several hundred yards to the north. I jogged south along the road until reaching the tree line and northern edge of the field, which was planted in soy. Westward I went, along the clear edge of the field, then hopping a barrier of poison ivy into the sparse forest. I then tracked southwestward through the forest to the point. Getting there took five minutes and zeroing out took another five.

The confluence lies on the extreme southern edge of Seneca County. I saw a single deer, and no cars had passed along the road by the time I made it back to my car 25 minutes after leaving it. The temperature was 63°F with little wind. A perfect end-of-July day in Ohio. I pointed my car north toward Lake Erie, and in Vermilion I finally beheld its freshwater vastness.
