Tras el eclipse solar total del 12 de agosto de 2026, nos dirigimos de vuelta al sur de la península Ibérica, donde vivimos. Habíamos pasado unos días en León para ver este evento astronómico; pero había una cosa más que quería hacer en estas vacaciones: visitar la confluencia de Santa Amalia.

Conocí el proyecto allá por 2024 gracias a Un Mundo Inmenso, un canal de YouTube de curiosidades de la geografía, y desde entonces he querido formar parte de él, y la confluencia que más cerca tenía era esta, a las afueras de Santa Amalia. Estaba a solo unos metros de la carretera principal EX-206. Sin embargo nunca nos habíamos parado para visitarla, aunque pasábamos a menudo por allí en nuestro camino hacia nuestro pueblo, Malpartida de la Serena.

Pero después de muchos preparativos finalmente decidimos ir a verla, ya que nos caía de paso tras el eclipse.

La confluencia se encontraba en un olivar de regadío, y para nuestra sorpresa… ¡había gente trabajando justo en ese momento! No sabíamos si acercarnos para no molestar, pero el hijo del dueño nos vio y se acercó, un poco extrañado. Entonces les expliqué en qué consistía el proyecto. ¡Y no lo conocían, por lo que fue una sorpresa para ellos! Nos dejaron amablemente ir al punto exacto (con la ayuda del GPS de mi smartphone) y hacer las fotos. Incluso clavaron una caña en el lugar aproximado de la confluencia.

Fue una experiencia muy interesante para mí. Por último, me gustaría agradecer a los dueños por interrumpir su trabajo y atendernos agradablemente, a pesar del calor de aquella mañana.

17-Aug-2026 -- After the total solar eclipse on August 12th, 2026, we headed back to the south of the Iberian Peninsula, where we live. We had spent a few days in León to witness this astronomical event, but there was one more thing I wanted to do during this vacation: visit the Santa Amalia confluence.

I first heard about the project back in 2024 thanks to Un Mundo Inmenso, a YouTube channel dedicated to curiosities of Geography. I had wanted to participate ever since, and this was the nearest confluence to me, located just off of Santa Amalia. It was only a few meters from the main EX-206 road. However, we had never stopped to visit it, even though we frequently drove past the spot on our way to our village, Malpartida de la Serena.

But after much planning, we finally decided to go see it, as it was conveniently on our route home after the eclipse.

The confluence was located in an irrigated olive grove, and to our surprise... there were people working there at that very same moment! We weren't sure whether to approach them—not wanting to be a nuisance—but the owner's son spotted us and walked over, looking a bit puzzled. I explained the project to them. And they hadn't heard of it before, so it came as a surprise to them! They kindly let us go to the exact spot (taking advantage of my smartphone's GPS) and take photos. They even stuck a reed in the ground to mark the approximate location of the confluence.

It was a fascinating experience for me. Finally, I would really like to thank the owners for pausing their work to attend to us so nicely, despite the heat that morning.

Now it's time to head for the next confluence point: 39°N 7°W
