24-May-2001 -- Marcus introduced the writer to the Confluence project a few weeks ago and a few items necessary
for the hunt were gathered, namely a car DC/AC converter for the laptop and the map software
to hook up with the GPS signal.
We decided to practise confluence hunting with an easy
secondary target nearby city of Lahti. We took off Thursday 24.5.2001 which is a national church
holiday in Finland. Not that many remember the reason for the holiday, as people in Finland
tend to belong to church, but visit it maybe once a year. There were several
parties and clubs yesterday and we were up late at LTJ Bukem gig here. When I told some
people about the project last night, the general consensus was "what a nerd project". Can't argue there.
The target area looks quite nice on the map, by the road in an area between two small lakes.
Weather was quite nice when we left, but clouds started gathering as we get nearer to our target.
Found the confluence after a little bit of walking and jumping over a ditch. It was raining,
but the sun showed up quite soon. The area proved to be agricultural area with small
farms here and there and the farmers living in nice lakeside houses. Makes the
urban citydweller almost consider the countryside as an option. In the main picture you can see a field nearby the confluence. At the our website there is a quicktime video showing 360' of the confluence spot.
After the confluence we drove around the pretty lakes surrounding the area and took some pictures. Some of them are posted.
