22-Dec-2001 -- 65N 20E is in a boreal pine forest with grazing reindeer. It was 24 Celsius below zero at 12:10 when picture 1 was taken.
Reindeer footprints can be seen in the snow on the picture.
Wind was moderate, 5 m/s from north on open places nearby, and the low temperature made it necessary to work quickly.
Access was from Boliden to Jörn (28 km), then to Älgträsk (8 km), then 2 km on a logging road, cleared from snow. Next 2 km was on a snowmobile track and the last 400 m in the forest in 40 cm of soft snow. There were a few clouds and it was actually snowing a short while from just out of the air, no cloud overhead!
A 30 head reindeer herd was grazing on the lawns of the two summerhouses that are at the abandoned settlement of Svarttjärnliden. Sun was just above the horizon, on this the second darkest day of the year.
My feet were cold when I got back to the car at 1:10 pm.
