17-Feb-2002 -- Since there are no more unvisited confluences in California, I have set a goal to visit as many California and Nevada confluences as I can. We had been in Tulare for a square dance festival this weekend and our route back to Sacramento on Highway 99 passes only a few miles from 37N120W near Madera. This confluence has been visited twice before, once about two and a half years ago and again just two and a half weeks ago.

We left Highway 99 in Madera and went northeast on Highway 145 for about 4 miles to where it bears to the right and River Road continues straight. We made an immediate left turn onto Island Drive which bends to the right around an orchard of newly planted trees on the right. Just past the orchard was a dirt road or perhaps private drive past a house on the left leading to another house about a quarter of a mile south. The actual confluence point lies on this road/drive. In fact, the photo (photo #5) of my GPS receiver with all zeros was on the hood of Emma (my Explorer) stopped in the middle of that road. Photo #1 shows the view to the east back across open fields toward Highway 145. The orchard of new trees to the west is shown in photo #2. Photo # 3 is the view back down the road to the north and photo #4 to the south shows the house at the end of the road.
