06-Jan-2002 -- Starting from 41°N 16°E on the search for snow I followed the river OFANTO (SS401/SS7) in direction WEST. I passed the city of Calitri and finally found mountains covered with snow. At the intersection SS400/SS164 I turned to NORTH, via Castelfranci, Paternopoli I reached the village Sant'Angelo all'Esca.
The track to the CP was found easily and the car was parked on the main road. A car parked in front of the nearby house and the German shepherd barked like always. I tried to call the residents but the curtains were closed and nobody responded.
A short walk to the SOUTH, up the hill and the already identified CP was easily found again. The tree was the already marked by an empty plastic bottle. Therefore I didn't have any doubt to attach my CP-plate. A good overview to the villages of Sant'Angelo all'Esca (NW) and Fontanarosa (NE) is given.
As completion for this visit I had a small walk in direction to Gesualdo and took some photos of abandoned buildings and farmsteads. At Sant'Angelo all'Esca I stopped for fuel and then left this area towards the SOUTH, via Luogosano, Salerno back to Taranto. I had a marvellous view San Mango sul Calore (picture 10) in the falling twilight.
