28-May-2003 -- Since my son, Michael, and I had a business appointment at the Atlantic Plywood Corporation in LeRoy, NY, we decided to visit our first confluence. After reading the other logs, we were anticipating this would be a drive up. We were not disappointed.
The confluence is indeed in the middle of the road. As you can see from the photos this was a splendid May day. Not one car passed us as we photographed our visit. Nor did anyone pop out and inquire about our actions.
After scoring our first confluence, we traveled approximately 1.7 miles to the LeRoy intersection of Routes 19 and 5. Heading east on Rt. 5 on our left after crossing Oatka Creek we found the 1898 Academic Building, which houses the JELL-O Gallery. As we toured the Gallery, our docent, Peg, gave us a detailed history of how the flavored gelatin, America’s most famous dessert, was invented in the village of LeRoy.
