(visited by Sergeant Zeno, Bob Barnard and Steve Jones)

29-May-2003 -- Fox News in DC (WTTG) sent me an email asking if I would like to take them to a confluence for their news show. They wanted to film me taking them to a confluence. So that is why I took today off work and went on this 6-mile hike into the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We had a great time. I couldn't have asked for two better guys to accompany me. I had brought sandwiches and water for all of us (and a beer for me to crack open at the confluence).

Along the Appalachian Trail the wildlife was teeming. There were millipedes and butterflies to be caught, and we stumbled upon some mating black snakes. Bob scared up a pheasant who revealed a beatiful clutch of eggs.

There was some sort of building for deer hunters and a deck next to a smoke house in the middle of the woods. The old chimney from some ancient cabin still stands near the confluence.

At the point of zero minutes and zero seconds, I attached a brass plate to the tree at the confluence. Hope someone comes along to see it some day.

The show will probably air locally some time in July. I'll get a copy of the tape and try to make an MPG for Alex.

It took 6 hours out of our day. We talked about a lot of stuff during the hike. Most significantly, I imagine that camera got mighty heavy for Steve.
