06-Dec-2003 -- I have become an avid Geocacher (AKA KKAM) and found a link to the Degree Confluence
Project at www.geocaching.com. I checked out the DCP site to find this one located near by my home in Middleton. I had to run an errand in the
area so I tossed my geocaching gear and dog into the car and set off on another
adventure.
Rather than follow in the footsteps of the previous explorers I decided to scout
out the area and see if there was a shorter route than along the fenced-in
field. It looked like the confluence was very close to a new home so I headed
back to the main road only to spot a logging trail into the woods; perfect. The
hound and I set off into the fresh snow and found the site with little effort.
The GPS was very accurate; I was surprised to get a perfect reading. I had
expected to spend some time in the cold before the WAAS averaged the correct
co-ordinates; lady luck was with us. We took some photos and had a very nice
stroll.
This was my first confluence and just like geocaching, was lots of fun.
