06-Dec-2003 -- After the failed trial to reach 08N64W I went to the North West. It was difficult to locate the correct route since the roads in this area are like a spider net, connecting the huge amount of oil fields. After some unwanted detours I manage the reach the national road from El Tigre to Santa María de Ipire.
First I missed to turn off at 8°49” N 65° 6,72” W since this so called village consists of one house. A very interesting road directed me north to the village of Mata Negra. In a distance of 11,4 km I turned to the east to find the village El Pueblito. Once I passed a house [pic2.jpg] and later I thought this might have been the village. As usual close to the equator the dawn is very short and the daylight disappeared [pic3.jpg].
Since this region is cattle farming area I had to pass some gates und fences [pic4.jpg]. With the night also the road turned to be worse. Many times I use the 4WD and it was thrilling to do this in the darkness just having ordinary head lights [pic5.jpg]. When I approached a corral surounded by a fence I decided in spite of the wrong direction and the restricted view to turn back.
The closest point was 3,52 km from the CP. With daylight, sufficient time and the assistance of locals it should be quit easy to reach to CP. There are some tracks to be worth to try.
