07-Jan-2001 -- Spending the weekend skiing at a
mountain resort in central Norway,
I suddenly rememberd that there was a confluence nearby! A friend of mine,
Espen, and I got in a car Sunday morning and drove about 60 km to get to the
confluence. It was (luckily) located only some 50 meters from a road.
The confluence is located about 800 meters above sea level, in forest, not
particularly dense, but still not very good for GPS accuracy.
The area and has recently had heavy snowfall, and so we had to walk in some
50-80 cm (2-3 feet) of snow to find it. It turned out to be very close to a cabin in the forest.
I have a Garmin GPS 12 XL, while my friend has both a 12XL and a Garmin
EMAP. We used both units and found that they showed some difference in
position, but not more than what you see in the pictures, about 2-5 meters,
which is quite accurate.
After taking the mandatory pictures, we drove back to our friends in the
mountains to go skiing.
I already have plans for at least two more confluence visits, but they willl
probably have to wait until summer.
