20-Jun-2004 -- We had actually planned to take the first ferry to Bandırma in order to get point 40N 28E near Manyas, so on Sunday morning we met Andi as early as a quarter to seven at Galata Tower in the heart of Istanbul. When we got to the ferry port Yenikapı we had to discover that all ferries were full until midday. All ferries to Yalova were completely booked out as well. So we sat in the car wondering what to do next. We examined the map and thought things over.

As we didn't want to drive round the Marmara Sea, we decided to tackle point 41N 32E near Mengen. On our way back from a school trip to Amasra, a few weeks earlier, we had passed that point very closely and looking out the bus, we had seen a road that led in the direction of the confluence point. We drove on the motorway via Bolu in the direction of Ankara. Before we got to Gerede, we turned left onto the country road and drove through the village of Mengen. We noticed that the road branching off left after the tunnel didn't lead to the confluence point. So we went back and took the well developed road to the National Park Yedigöller, which means "Seven Lakes". The road led us nearly to the confluence point. We only had to go up a slope a little.

Due to the forest and the drizzly rain the zero dance became a little difficult and it took quite a while until we managed to get the point exactly on the GPS, and also take the pictures. After we had taken the photos, we went back to the car and debated whether we should drive on to the next point or have a look at the National Park. Of course we decided in favour of the next confluence point and headed for point 41N 33E.
