26-Aug-2004 -- After two difficult points 50N 92E and 49N 92E we were due an easy one. This point is on open steppe near Uvs Nuur. Uvs Nuur is the largest lake in Mongolia and is slightly salt and very shallow. As we were driving east we had to detour just 7 km to get to the point – nothing to stop us driving in a straight line! Gers dotted the horizon all around and with mirages they sometimes seem to be skyscrapers! Choi was close to his birthplace here (Tes soum a little to the north) and was sorry not to be going there but he hopes to go next week. This was the first CP for driver Bayamunkh. We took the photos and carried on along our way. A little later we had to stop to wake the driver up – hand (or animal) operated wells are the main source of water for man and livestock on the steppe. Nearby we passed a camel train – Mongolian herders move about 3 or 4 times per year to different grazing lands. Camels are the traditional means of carrying all the families’ possessions
