23-Jul-2000 -- This confluence, 39 north 85 west is
located in southeast Indiana near the town of Dillsboro in Dearborn
County. The landowner allowed me to photograph the confluence. The
actual confluence is about 5 feet out into a pond. The topography here
is steep from the upland to the Ohio River valley. This confluence is
also located near Friendship, Indiana home of the National Muzzle
Loading Rifle Association National Fall Shoot.
This annual event pays homage to the old-time art of muzzleloading
and the pioneer spirit. The Shoot started in 1933 with an argument about
the accuracy of the old guns that were used to forge early America. The
guns made a good showing, and today, 1,500 shooters and up to 2,000
spectators enjoy the competition. Also, Friendship is known for its
flea markets and swapmeets.
Photograph one is of the closest point to the confluence, located
about 5 feet out into the pond. Photograph two is from the other side
of the pond looking at the confluence. Photographs three and four are
looking west and southeast respectively from the confluence. Picture 5
is the obligatory GPS receiver closest to the confluence near the edge
of the pond.
