02-Aug-2001 -- Begin Augustus 2001: I went to Paris for a couple of days with a friend of mine. On our way back we went to visit a N50 E3 confluence. We drove off the A1 highway at Peronne and than we went towards Nurlu. Several minutes before reaching the point I knew it had to be somewhere in the field, the question was: how far from the nearest road? We had a good luck. Suddenly there was a small road going through the fields of wheat. It took us up to 230 meters from the confluence. We walked towards the location but we had to stop about 90 meters from our goal. The wheat field became very dense. To make things worse the wheat ears were very wet, the rain stopped several minutes before we arrived. My friend gave up but I decided to walk the last meters with water filling up my shoes. I walked very carefully to avoid damaging wheat as much as possible. And there it was, the N50 E3 confluence. The altitude reading from my GPS matches exactly the theoretical altitude from the confluence site. The confluence location is in the middle of an agricultural region. In all the directions there are fields almost as far as you can see. In several weeks I am planning to go to France again and I hope to submit more confluences. --JP.
