#1: Confluence from NNE across the Demer River

(visited by Hans Augdoppler)

22-Apr-2002 -- First I tried to approach the CP from the village of Zichem as described by the previous visitors. It turned out that the mentioned farm road is not as easy to find. Finally I found a farm track which was guarded by aggressive dogs and furthermore I was hampered by sunset. Another trial was planned from the northern bank of the Demer River on the next morning.

Coming from the city of Diest I drove along the railway line on the ‘Fabriekstraat’ on the northern bank of the river. Fortunately there was a causeway path downstream starting very close to the CP. The CP is located just across the river, probably in a field of thistles, in a distance of ~65m.

Since the opposite bank seemed to be very wet I gave up getting closer. Travelling downstream I crossed 51°N at a distance of ~100m. From this position on I continued to the south and then further on along the river. I passed a heavily fenced house situated like an island in this swampy riverside.
