17-Dec-2007 -- We were returning home to Walvis Bay after having spent a very pleasant long-weekend in the Etosha National Park. We noticed that we would pass within 60 km of this Confluence and so decided to deviate from our route in order to visit it. From Etosha we travelled south east on the C38. At Otjiwarongo we took the B1, travelling north east towards Otavi. After about 60 km we reached the D2886 which turned off to the left in a north westerly direction. At this corner we found the farm Fisher no 564. We drove up the driveway towards the farmhouse and there met one of the farm workers called Gerson Heibeb. He told us that the owner of the farm, Mr Steven van Wyk, was not at home but in Otavi. Fortunately we were able to contact him by cell phone and once I had explained the purpose of our visit, he gave us permission to visit the site and said that Gerson could accompany us.

We set off down the D2886 for about 5 km, and then reached a farm road turning off to the left in a south westerly direction. We were now about 2.3 km from the Confluence. We then reached another road turning off to the right in a north westerly direction, about 700 meters from the Confluence. We followed this road for about 700 metres and then parked our vehicle in the shade of some trees and out of sight for the confluence photographs. We needed to climb through a fence and cover the remaining 180 meters south west on foot. The Confluence was situated in one of the farm camps. The bush in this camp was being cut down and burnt in order to make charcoal. As the summer rains had not yet fallen, the area was dry and very hot.
