#1: A view from the confluence point

29-Dec-1999 -- This beautiful confluence is located in the middle of California's Mojave Desert, 6 miles from the tiny (just one building: a general store!) settlement of Goffs, on historic "Route 66".

Near Goffs, at [34.92945,-115.07203], a sandy 4WD road runs almost directly to the confluence: 6.5 miles each way. Because my car's not 4WD, I parked at this point (see photo #5 below) and decided to ride my mountain bike towards the confluence. Although the road - and all of the nearby terrain - is flat, the sandy conditions made riding difficult.

I reached the confluence in the late afternoon, 1/2 hour before sunset. The low sun led to some excellent photos. The sun had just set when I returned to my car.
