There was only one confluence on the 15th meridian left for me to visit – with 52nd parallel. On sunny Saturday I set off from Poznań at 7:48 by local train to Zielona Góra. There I changed to Leszno – Gubin coach and after an hour’s ride I arrived at the village of Brzózka at 11:15. There were ca. 1400 m from the bus stop to the confluence point as the crow flies.

From the main road I turned into a side one leading to Brzózka forestry and then walked west along the edge of the forest. I passed by a couple of information boards presenting the flora and fauna of the forest and came to a vast glade. There was a small, white memorial stone to St. Hubert the Hunter with an interesting inscription: “To those who served, are serving, and will serve Hubert. «Wild Boar» local hunters’ association. Brzózka 1952 – 2002”. Next to the stone there was a shed with benches and tables where hunters probably meet after a hunt.

Right after the glade the road, that was quite good that far, had ended and I entered a boggy meadow. Bearing in mind my experiences from 53N 15E I was gently testing the ground before taking every single step, but that didn’t prevent me from wetting my shoes. I recognized then that it wasn’t the right way and came back to the forest. Several times I attempted to get through the meadow and each time it ended similarly – I reached the marsh and had to withdraw. I passed by a forest playground, went under a power line and circled the marsh on its north side. I crossed a small bridge over a canal running through the marsh and came to fish ponds.

I knew from the first visitor’s narrative that the confluence point was in the middle of the pond, so I was looking for a place on the shore where the distance to the “zero” point would be minimal. After several attempts the GPS receiver showed a distance of 7.61 m what was quite satisfactory for me. A ride in a leaky boat didn’t seem very attractive. I took pictures of the surroundings along with nice, red-pink aquatic flora blooming in the pond (probably Polygonum amphibium f. natans, according to my home biologist) and returned to the forest to have my déjeuner sur l'herbe.

At 14:20, after a longer rest, I set forth on my return journey. Along a comfortable and dry forest track I reached the main road and came back to Brzózka village at 15:00. In anticipation of the bus arrival I tasted ice-creams in a small grocery. At last the bus arrived at 15:35 and after one hour I got off in Zielona Góra. I strolled around the Old Town to the Market Square, had a fairly good pizza at “Gioconda”, and walked to the railway station. At 18:15 I departed by local train to Zbąszynek and after a 30-minutes’ wait changed to a train from Rzepin. We arrived in Poznań at 21:30.

Polski

Na piętnastym południku pozostało mi w Polsce jeszcze jedno przecięcie – z 52. równoleżnikiem. W słoneczną sobotę wyruszyłem z Poznania o 7:48 pociągiem osobowym do Zielonej Góry. 11:15 do wsi Brzózka. Z przystanku autobusowego do przecięcia miałem w linii prostej ok. 1400 m.

Wygodnym i suchym leśnym duktem dotarłem do szosy i poboczem wróciłem o 15:00 do wsi Brzózka. Do Poznania dojechaliśmy o 21:30.
