02-Mar-2005 -- After spending the night in a very old hotel in Châlons-en-Champagne we found our car in bright sunlight but with the bottles of drinking water frozen. The bottles with wine survived the cold night. And off we went to visit 49N06E close to Metz.
By mistake I entered 49N05E in my GPS; my penalty for doing this en route. So we found the small village of Eclaires and parked the car close to the church. The confluence is in a private meadow. As nobody was there to admit me I stayed at the path to the church about 25 m from the road resulting in a distance to go to DCP of 60 m. The North, East, South and West photographs taken from the same position show a very quiet village. The GPS displays show the distance to go and the time of entering the waypoint in the GPS; actual visiting time was around 11 o’clock. Some remarkable items of church and graveyard can be seen.
At the time of our visit the railway Paris- Metz- Strasbourg of the high speed train TGV (Transport Grande Vitesse) was under construction. It is the dot-stroke line in the map which shows in blue our track to this DCP and the continuation to the intended DCP 49N06E. The second part of this map is found in the submission of that point.
