27-Aug-2004 -- It was quite unexpectedly during a travel in France that I was able to visit this confluence in the small village of Éclaires.
Though I knew I was going to France during my holidays, my intended routing happened to be quite distant from any confluence point. Therefore I did not submit any planned visits. (Later on I was even able to visit a second point, 46N 004E)
It was by coincidence that we stayed in the neighbourhood of Verdun. The area around Verdun is well known because of the batllefields of "La Grande Guerre" as the French like to call World War I.
After we visited the National Monument at these battlegrounds early in the afternoon, I realised there was enough time left to go to confluence-point 49 N 005 E.
Éclaires is a sleepy little village. Inhabitants seems to be primarely farmers. At the southwest side of the village is a little chapel on a hill-top. From here you can oversee the confluence-point but you cannot see the point itself because it's located in somebodies backyard.
I got permission to enter the area and take pictures. Sadly enough I forgot to take a general picture, but the submitted pictures form a 360 deg almost uninterrupted view and are taken on top of the point. As you can see it's located in a kind of orchard. There are no signs the situation will change in the near future.
