22-Jul-2010 -- Ich fahre heute weiter auf der E6 Richtung Alta. In der Ortschaft Melsvik sehe ich ein Hinweisschild „Tirpitz Museum". Es öffnet ab 10 Uhr und bietet mir, denke ich, die beste Möglichkeit, etwas mehr und genauere Informationen über meinen gestrigen Fund zu geben. Nach Aussage des Direktors des Museums handelt es sich bei diesem Wrack um eine englische Maschine des Typs Barracuda MK II, die am 3. April 1944 beim Angriff auf die Tirpitz abgeschossen wurde. Dabei kamen der Pilot und der Navigator ums Leben. Vielen Dank an den Direktor des Museums, Even Blomkvist. Weiter auf der E 6 in Richtung Lakself, zum einfachsten zu findenden Schnittpunkt auf der 70er Breitengradlinie. Ein paar km südlich von Lakself führt eine Schotterstraße links ab, an einem E–Werk vorbei zu einem Hostel bzw. Wanderheim, wie es auch hier genant wird. Die Straße ist hier ohnehin zu Ende und es sind von dem Parkplatz bis zum Punkt nur 370 Meter. Es ist zwar schon 20:15 Uhr abends und das jetzige aktuelle Wetter sauschlecht, aber ich beschließe kurzfristig, diesen Punktbesuch noch heute zu machen. Warm und einigermaßen wasserdicht eingepackt mit GPS und Kamera geht es los. Die ersten 100 Meter leicht sumpfiges Gelände und die Reststrecke zum Punkt leicht hügelig und steinig, war das Ziel nach ca. 12 Minuten erreicht.

Ein kleiner persönlicher Rekord ist geschafft. Um 20:37 Uhr war mein nun 10. Punktbesuch auf der 70er Breitengradlinie in Skandinavien perfekt. 2 vor der Küste und 2 an Land wären noch möglich. Die Wetterverhältnisse (aktuell vor Ort) müssen aber einfach passen, so wären auch diese 4 Punkte noch machbar, wenn auch teils anstrengend und teuer. Zurück in das Hostel für einen großen heißen Kaffee, wobei sich wiederum mit dem Betreiber des Hostels ein interessantes Gespräch über die GPS–Schnittpunktsuche ergab. Am nächsten Morgen kam ich noch mit einem deutschen Ehepaar ins Gespräch, das ebenfalls mit GPS-Geräten unterwegs war. Allerdings waren sie auf Geo-Caching-Tour unterwegs. Spontan beschlossen wir zu dritt noch mal diesen Punkt zu besuchen in Kombination mit einer Geo-Cache-Tour. Wegen des andauernd aktuell miesen Wetters ging es nun weiter um die Mittagszeit in Richtung Süden nach Finnland.

22-Jul-2010 -- Back on E 6 toward Alta. I drove through a town called Melsvik and there I saw an advertising for the Tirpitz Museum. It opened at 10am and I thought it would be my best chance to find out more about the plane wreck I had discovered the day before. At this point I‘d like to thank the director of the museum Even Blomkvist, for the thorough information he gave me. Apparently the plane is english, a Barracuda MK II. It was shot down on the 3. of April 1944 during a raid on the Tirpitz, both the pilot and the navigator were killed. If you want more info visit the museum website www.tirpitz-museum.no

On E 6 again, in the direction of Lakself, on the way to the easiest to find confluence on the 70° latitude line. There‘s a hunting trail a couple kilometre south of Lakself. I took a left there and drove past a powerplant until I reached a hostel. The trail ends here anyway, but the distance from the paking lot to the degree confluence is only 370 metres. It was already 20:15pm and the weather was terrible as well, but I decided to head to the confluence anyways. I dressed warm and water resistant, and packed my GPS navigator and my camera. The first 100m were swampy, the remaining distance was rather hilly and rock sewn. I reached the confluence after approx. 12 minutes. Kind of a personal record for me. At 20:37 pm I visited my tenth confluence with the 70° latitude line in scandinavia. There are two on land and two on sea left I could visit, but it really depends on the weather if I can. Its also rather exhausting and expensive.

I headed back to the hotel, while looking forward to a nice large cup of coffee to warm me up. Back at the hotel I had a great conversation about degree confluences with the owner. The next morning I met a german couple during breakfast, that was also on tour with GPS navigators. But they were on a geo-caching tour. We spontaneously decided to revisit the confluence and combine the hike with a geo-caching tour. Because of the horrible weather we started out in the afternoon heading south towards Finnland.
