28-Feb-2012 -- I have been planning on a visit here for quite a while. I arrived around noon at the parking area for Pennsylvania State Gamelands 109. Future visitors please use: Parking: N 41° 59.952 W 080° 00.215. Its a very quick walk down the Old State Road trail.
I got to within about 500 feet of GZ and navigated off the trail into the swamp. From the trail this would be about a 45 degree angle. My approach was well west of the branch of LeBoeuf creek. The area is a swamp. Very very wet. The snow had laid the swamp grasses over which made for a very tough hike in.
I came prepared with hip waders and needed every inch of their height plus maybe another 2 inches. I hit a hole on the way in that allowed the water to pour in for a second. It took every bit of 30 minuted to plod my way back just a couple of hundred feet.
The toughest part of the trip was navigating the very deep, mucky creek. I got stuck more than once. Perseverance finally won out and I was standing at N 42 00.000 W 080 00.000! Sweet! What a trip! I took some celebratory photos! A buddy stood by on the main trail near the bridge and snapped a few photos as well.
Like I said before. Please use supplied parking. Plan for lots and lots of water! This is also Pennsylvania State Gamelands. Please obey all rules and laws and wear Blake orange during hunting season!!
