24-Aug-2013 -- I came from 43°N 012°E and followed more or less the SR71 highway. In Arezzo I headed east and drove on a dual carriageway into the Apennine Mountains. The road was partly in poor condition, but it was fascinating to see how the engineers squeezed the road into the valley. I must admit that when I think about Italy I mainly have the nice flat and sandy beaches in mind and I forget that the backbone of this country are the Apennine Mountains, with their rugged landscape.
I left the dual carriageway, climbed over the Colle (pass) di Carnaio and drove through Civitella de Romagna. From my preparations at home I knew that a road led via the Lake Seggio quite close to the point. I took this narrow road and my car needed its first gear most of the time to climb the steep road.
Previous visitors mentioned that they parked at 44°00.03'N 011°59.43'E. Indeed there is a sharp turn and a rugged dirt way started here. The way was blocked by a barbed wire fence, but it was openable. Signs said that hunting is prohibited (assuming they exclude Confluence hunting) but no word that hikers are not welcome.
I opened the fence, walked through, closed it and started at an altitude of 486 metres the hike to the Point in 760 metres direct distance. The way led through forest until a meadow appeared 130 metres off the Point. The Point is located in the forest on the other side of the meadow, but thick scrubs prevented a direct assault. Thus I continued the way, steep inclination hindered the access from the north and I took a path starting from the east.
The Confluence Point is located in a forest on a slope, descending to the north at an altitude of 533 metres. Small paths run along the contours in regular distances. From that I conclude that this is a reforested area. I took the required photos and also a photo from a clearing, only 20 metres west of the exact point. Then I walked back to my car and arrived there 45 minutes after I have left it.
With this point I have visited (or was a stone's throw away) all Confluence Points on my home longitude 12°E from 54°N to 42°N. I hope one day I manage to visit more points on this longitude in the north (Scandinavia) or in the south (Africa)!
