#1: Feet at the confluence.

(visited by Scott Berk, Jon Ferguson, Will Glesnes and Jenny Squires)

11-Oct-1998 -- A Columbus Day weekend trip to Boston afforded the opportunity to visit two confluence points within 24 hours of each other (42N, 71W and 42N, 72W). On Sunday, we visited 42N, 71W, located in West Bridgewater, MA, about 25 miles south of Boston. From our maps, we expected this one to be a piece of cake.

The confluence was located extremely close to a small road south of the town center. When we arrived near the site, we found ourselves in a residential area of modest-sized homes (photo 2).Parking our 4x4 on the side of the street, we prepared ourselves for possible confrontation with the area residents. Perhaps due to repeated viewings of "LA Confidential," we all assumed "film noire" roles (photo 3, right to left): Jon, "the Muscle"; Will, "the Gangster", Scott, "the Peacemaker", and Jenny, "the Doll". Thankfully, we didn't have to grease anyone, or slip 'em a mickey, or even shake 'em down. The confluence point was in a secondary driveway in which the owners kept their truck and their boat. After snapping a quick photo of our gang surrounding the point (photo 1), we recorded the evidence (photo 4), and beat feet for our getaway car. Along the way, we stopped to notice an interesting piece of landscaping (photo 5). It was probably an old mill stone, but we all figured it'd make a swell confluence marker. . . or perhaps a handy "cement lifejacket" in case one of the neighbors squealed. At the time of this writing, our "confluence gang" is still at large.
