#1: The confluence from 25m Distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

11-Mar-2025 -- Normally, I don’t do revisits of confluence points. I had already visited this confluence point 9 years earlier on a bicycle trip from Malaga to Sevilla.

This time, as fortune wants it, Elionora and I just came as close as 25m to this confluence on our long hike from Portugal to Singapore. Yes, you read correctly, we are walking on foot 25’000 KM, the longest track between two places in Eurasia.

I had not told Elionora about my plan to visit the confluence. I just walked a bit faster and went ahead. So when she came to the confluence, I had already documented it. We took a picture of us together, while she was just having a business call. So she didn’t even notice that she just had successfully visited a confluence point!

After 9 years, not much has changed: the confluence is still squeezed between the single line railroad track and the small country road. Moreover, the railroad sleepers are still lying on the spot. Yet, the works on the railway are again (or still?) ongoing. Again there was an excavator nearby. The workers told me that they don’t built another railroad track, but a new underground communication line.

You are very welcome to visit my blog of the long hike. If you want to see where I am currently hiking, you can find my daily update on Polarsteps.
