18-Feb-2001 -- Travel to the 35N 77W confluence was done mostly by car except
for the last 0.5 miles which was an easy hike through Croatan National Forest
land facilitated by a logging road for 0.3 miles. The last 0.2 miles was through
somewhat thick underbrush with occasional thorny vines and plenty of things
to poke your eyes out with. The woods gave way to a swamp and a creek
which we followed downstream for about 300 feet. Crossing the creek at a
narrow spot and continuing downstream for another 50 feet brought us to
the confluence. I suspect that travel to this confluence in the summertime
would be a battle with mosquitos, snakes, ticks and poison ivy. Total trip time
from the car and back was about two hours. We also stashed a Geocache
near the location. See geocaching.org
for more info on the geocache. |
