25-Aug-2001 -- The trip to the confluence looked to be straight forward
with most of it being on good paved highways. Only the
last few kilometres were an unknown as previous experience
had proven that roads shown on the Map Quest maps could be
anything from good to almost nonexistent.
I created a route on my Garmin GPS12 with the major turns
waypointed and set out with a printout of the Map Quest map
in hand.
The 150 km drive on pavement passed quickly and after about
two hours I turned off onto a wide, well maintained, gravel
road. After a few kilometres on this road my GPS indicated
that I was approaching my next turn just as I approached a
turnoff to the south.
Unfortunately my path was blocked by a gate erected by the
provincial fish and game division. A sign explained that the
road was closed to motorized vehicles for wildlife management
purposes.
As it was already afternoon and the gate was 15 km from the
confluence I decided not to try it.
This would be an ideal confluence for someone with a mountain
bike, horse or even on skinny skis in the winter.
