09-Feb-2002 -- Today my landlord decided to cut the old trees in front of
the house using a chainsaw. Because there's no other noise
I hate more, except lawnmowers maybe, I headed off to
visit another confluence, N52 E7.
The spot is easily reached. Take the A31 and use exit
Gescher turning west to Gescher. Use the K34 north and
after about 5 Km turn right to Büren. That's the village
close to the confluence (5 houses or so). Go through the
village and turn left(west) onto the K33 and after 600
meters turn right onto the K38. That's the road that will
take you closest to the confluence. I was surprised to find
a bus stop right a the spot where one has to leave the road
at a right angle to go to the confluence. So, if you prefer
to go there by bus, take line 862, stop "Krieger". I have
no idea where that bus line goes to, though.
The area is characterized by lots of meadows, small roads
and patches of trees in between. I assume the area once
was a large forest before the first farmers settled there.
The confluence point is in such a wood, so the photos don't
represent the area well.
The ground in that wood is very swamp like. It had rained
for 2 days before my visit and even today the weather was
cloudy with heavy intermittend showers making it even
worse. Even if you manage to avoid the puddles,
occasionally you'll sink into the ground may 10cm deep. If
you're going to visit this confluence, bring watertight
boots!
The only attraction near the confluence is an atomic waste
dump, about 3 Km away. Funny to imagine the large trucks
with the containers and hundreds of protestors on the small
roads of the area.
