It did not take but a couple of hours to get from 29N 82W to the
vicinity of this confluence. So far I have been very lucky in having
easy access to the targets. I think my luck just ran out. DeLorme
shows one of those gray roads coming off of Hwy 441 and going to within
about a half mile of the target. So far these "gray roads"
have been either good dirt or even paved. At this location, I think
someone had the idea to put a road but just never did. There is a fence
and a gate just no road. (28 00.196N 81 01.343W). The surrounding area
is bog with some parts being wetter than others. There are even some
dry areas. I didn’t come this far to give up because of a little
discomfort. There are no "NO Trespassing" signs so I forged
ahead. The first 100 yds or so is not bad. This area has been cleared
at one time. I wander around the general course of what should be a road
and get to the last half a mile. The going is very tough at this
point. Thick underbrush, many cactus and thorny vines. The vegetation
is so thick that at times I lost the GPS signal. But with some
determination I am able to get to the target. The GPS reading is not
very stable. It reminds me of when SA was in effect. If you look for
this spot you know when you have arrived when at the time you stop
moving you are immediately covered by mosquitoes. I figure there were
at least 100 to the square inch. I knew they were bad but didn’t know
how bad until I stopped. These are the big hairy ones with the white
spots. I didn’t take a lot of time on location. The underbrush was so
thick there is not much to take a picture of. I took a couple of quick
shots and got back to the safety of the motor home.... |
