24-Dec-2000 -- It was 2:00 Christmas Eve 2000 as we crossed the border
from Indiana into Michigan -- Matt cunningly beating me into the state by
leaning over the dashboard (without compromising our safety of course).
Snow had just started to fall and country roads stretched around us. It
was a classic midwestern Christmas scene.
We figured this confluence was going to be pretty easy -- the satellite
photo showed the mark to be in a farmer's front yard. And as we turned on
to a quiet little snow-covered Bidwell Road, the GPS indicated we were
pretty much right on top of the spot. It was smack dab in the middle of the
road, right in front of a couple of pretty horses feeding on hay. A friendly
farmer asked what exactly we were up to then introduced us to the horses --
Daphne and Jack -- "an old stallion." We snapped a few shots,
got back in the car and that was that. It was sort of anti-climactic for my first
time, but I think I'm definitely hooked.
