14-Jul-2017 -- During the way back from our holidays in Sicily we visited some relatives in Switzerland. On that way I took the opportunity to visit the confluence point 46N 9E, which is situated on the lake Lugano.

After passing Milano and Como we took the Autobahn A2 direction "Lago di Lugano". Taking the exit Lugano South the route leads directly through the city of Lugano, always along the lakeshore direction northeast. After passing the district Castagnola we took the road "Strada di Gandria" for reaching the eponymous place Gandria. Above the village we used a charged parking place with a beautiful view to the lake Lugano. Now we went down for exploring this nice small village and as well to find the harbour. Because it was the plan to ask somebody for shipping me quickly out on the lake and back, of cause for a payment. But unfortunately nobody was there. While having a coffee at the neighboured restaurant "Antico", the kind boss referred me to a boat hire at Lugano. But I didn't want to drive back and so the idea grew to swim.

At a public landing stage the GPS showed about 600 m beeline to the CP. So I prepared two Tupper-boxes and a guy rope, for transporting the GPS (in the inner box) and the mobile (in a plastic bag in the outer box) in fairly dry conditions on resp. through the water. Cause of the quite warm water and the usage of fins it was possible to reach the CP without seizures. The only concern I had was about the passenger ship and several motor boats. Furthermore it became windy around noon, so that the water got wavy. On my way towards I had problems with the orientation because of swimming with no fixable destination. I had to check the GPS from time to time, and near the aimed CP like this. That's why, and as well because of a sidestep for a vessel, I reached the CP 46N 9E while swimming a sweep.

Once there I had problems to open the boxes, handle the gadgets, especially the mobile, with wet fingers, not to let them fall down, always paddling for keeping the hands above the waves! In the end it worked all fine and I could swim back directly, in visual contact with my aimed stage. Back at the stage I checked the pictures on the mobile. Only the screenshots on the Garmin-GPS were not testable. This function is available by usage of the on/off button. But the GPS turns off in case you press the button a part of a second too long. That happened to me at two times in the middle of the lake!

So far I knew this kind of a visit only by the DCP-website. At the CP 46N 9E I could experience this refreshing kind by myself!
