12-Jan-2013 -- Time to get the first visit of the year on the books, I am going North up the A1 so the point of choice is this one. It is a bitterly cold day and the weather has been wet for months now, seems hard to remember back to dry & warm weather.
Summer 2012 was really the summer that never was in the UK, fields that would be dry and firm underfoot were soggy and soft even in July & August. This carried on through the winter so we'll see what it's like today.
Park up, on with my boots, quilted jacket, windproof coat and woollen gloves ready for the shortish walk to the confluence point.
At this time of year the field is clear of any crops of course, and the grass is short, still very wet though. Walk round the edge of the field and take the N,S,E,W pictures from the edge of the field.
Walking carefully out into the field, over the deep ruts I reach the spot and take the ground cover picture. Break the surface and the mud is thick and sticky.
