21-Feb-2024 -- One day break of our skiing holidays at the Kaunertal gave me the chance to visit the confluence point 47°N-11°E.
This CP is located in the Ötztal. So we had to take the northern route via the A 12 motorway and road 186. After passing the name giving village Oetz we reached the village Mühlau and took the way up to Granstein. After a short distance the road leads through a small natural tunnel. Around one kilometre later I parked the car in front of a holiday home. Reason for this was the snow on the way towards Jausenstation Hochwald. This location was closed due to the time of year. From this little settlement on the way leads steep up on a forestry road through a conifer forest. After circa 1000 m and a few serpentines we reached the gate, photographed by former visitors. This gate has now been dismounted and stands on the right lower side of the way, in front of two farm houses. From this point the distance to the confluence point is only 50 m. The snow was quite old and hard. So it was no problem to step on it and to reach the exact location, which is located about two meters upwards left of the way. Under best conditions: no wind or storm, no precipitation, a slight cloud cover and not too cold for a February, I was able to take the needed pictures. Instead of my handheld I had to use my mobile with the app GPS-Status to show the exact coordinates. The way after another 300 m upwards, I saw two more farm houses.
This was a very relaxing visit during our winter sport holiday. Especially to view from the confluence location direction east, to the mountain range with several more then 3000 m high peaks, is very impressive!
