16-Aug-2004 -- Having just done N48 E15 we headed along the A1 motorway, took
the A21 motorway towards the south of Vienna and came off at Alland heading towards Altenmarkt and eventally
arrived at the railway station (Tasshof? as mentioned in previous visitors reports).
Michael was actually looking forward to this CP as there would be a bit of a climb and it would be more interesting
walking through the woods. To make it even more interesting we did not follow the signs directly to Hocheck
(the easiest most direct route) but for some unexplained reason headed off along the paved road along the railway
line away from the Hocheck trail.
We picked up a forest road that zig zagged towards the CP but it eventually
ended in nothing and we had to make a direct line towards the CP through the trees. It was actually easy going, not
the struggle as depicted by my colleague on his visit.
Perhaps it has more to do with his rotund shape than the terrain ;-)
We eventually joined the proper Hocheck trail which brought us to a point about 45 metres above the trail. We
descended and spent some time trying for those zeros - the leaves on the trees making this very difficult. But
we got them eventally took the usual photos and headed back to the car this time following the Hocheck trail
in reverse arriving at the car 30 minutes later. A thoroughly enjoyable CP visit completed and and the third of
the day. There would be no more - well, not today that is! A short journey to Vienna followed by some gentle
running in the Vienna woods ended the day.
