29-Dec-2000 -- How surprising - this confluence is in the middle of a wheatfield -
in rural Australia you can count on it being a sheep paddock or a wheatfield.
Since it was 650 metres from the nearest public road I decided that it was
not appropriate to walk to the actual confluence
I'm glad this wasn't my first Confluence visit - I would have given
up sooner. After trying all possible access roads to get to 35S 149E I have
concluded that the closest you can get without hiking across private land is
650 metres!
Photo #2: Turn west 2.8km south of the General Store at Murrumbateman
and then take the second left in to Scrubby Lane. Once you reach the end of
the dirt road you will realise why it earned its name. If you want to get to within
650 metres you will need to walk or drive a few 100 metres more long this easement
where they might eventually clear a road ! I suggest not driving along this track
in a sedan as there are some deep ruts hidden by the tall dead grass.
35S 149E seems to be 650 metres distant on the western side of the fence
which runs North-South and meets up with the fence running East-West beside
the track at S34.9967 E149.0026 (AGD84).
Photo #3: Just to show I did try to find any possible closer accesses, here is
a map of the Tracks of all attempts on all nearby roads and tracks.
