05-Jun-2007 -- I am nearly at the end of a trip round 9 international agricultural centers. Unfortunately I didn't catch any points in the Philippines (no time) - or Nigeria (impractical) - but the other visits allowed for expeditions so 6 visits (including 3 firsts).
This has not only been a very interesting job but also an opportunity to catch new and "used" points in 5 countries. This is certainly the most "used" point - I think I will be number 14 - not really my style but it does take me to a total of 18 countries. Well arriving in DC and finding that I could catch the metro to within 2 miles of the point and that the point is easily accessible was too good a chance to miss. Well the first puzzle is the metro - but the ticketing system was kindly shown to me by a local resident and for 4.70 USD (rush hour rates) I got my ticket. The walk from Silver Spring is very pleasant - a wide variety of houses in many styles - some old, some mock Tudor - just like in the suburbs of London (England!). I bought a nice soft ice cream from a van and then started the final approach to the point.
Apart from juggling ice cream, camera and GPS at the same time the point was easily found - almost - I couldn't quite decide if I was closer on the north side or the south side of the block. I took the photos on the south side - just to be different - by my reckoning I was 15 meters away on that side and twice that on the north side. But I am sure the block is not 45 meters deep!
Well then I got lazy and took a taxi back to DC and celebrated with an excellent Chinese take-away and a glass off wine to follow.
