22-Jul-2003 -- Cheryl and I were on the east coast for a square dance festival in Pennsylvania and to visit her son and family in Great Falls, Virginia. This day was allocated to GPSing and visiting my old stomping grounds in Rockville, Maryland. After first visiting a geodashing dashpoint in the District of Columbia, our next stop was the confluence at 39N 77W in Silver Spring, Maryland. As has been noted by the several visitors before us, the confluence lies in the Flower Branch Apartment complex (photo #1 looking west from the confluence). It was impossible to get all zeros on my GPSR (photo #4) since the exact confluence is apparently inside the building behind Cheryl in photo #3. Furthermore, the closer I got to the building the worse my GPS reception got. As one can see in photo #2 looking north, besides the four story apartment buildings, there is also considerable tree cover in the area. One would hope the residents of the apartments here are well read since the Long Branch of the Montgomery County Public Library is just a cross the street (photo #5).
